Two of three Fine Arts students included in Best of SUNY exhibition earn Honorable Mentions

Brianna Becker and Juan Rivera received Honorable Mentions in Best of SUNY, an annual art exhibition featuring outstanding works by undergraduate and graduate art students at SUNY’s 64 campuses. Another HVCC student, Kenneth Rutsky, has a painting in the exhibit.

All three artists are currently enrolled in Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting, two semesters of guided study for students who have completed foundation art courses and wish to pursue their own body of work. The course is taught by Thomas Lail, professor in the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media Department. The works by HVCC students included in the Best of SUNY were created in painting classes during the 2020-2021 academic year when all studio art classes had shifted to synchronous remote teaching due to the pandemic.

Art faculty from across SUNY nominate student works for submission to the Best of SUNY exhibition, which is then juried by an independent panel. Three, $1,000 Best of Show awards and four, $500 Honorable Mention awards were announced April 7, 2022.

The exhibit is installed at the H. Carl McCall SUNY Building at SUNY Plaza in Albany that currently is open only by appointment. A small, in-person reception may be scheduled in the near future.
